This project intends to help Small Enterprises and SMEs organisations in the CEECs countries to familiarise with the community acquis that will regulate their markets once these countries join the EU. The project is funded by the EC's PHARE programme.

UEAPME's BSP II project "SME-FIT" brings together a unique consortium of 24 SME associations from the new Member States, the EU-15 and the Candidate Countries. The project builds on the achievements of the activities under BSP I but goes several steps further. The general aims of SME-FIT are as follows:

1. Information and awareness building at the level of SMEs regarding the Community acquis in the fields of standardisation, certification, quality management, safety at work, environment and social affairs and employability.

2. Institution building to strengthen the SME associations in the Candidate Countries and / or new Member States. To achieve this, a number of activities are being implemented.
